Serena Loses to Kim Clijsters

The controversy is that she was defaulted.

First, she was called on a "foot fault", which means her foot was on the line when she served, against the rules, and in my view, a good call by the lines person.
Serena didn't like the call, and approached the lines person, a tiny lady, probably all of 4' 9" and shouted, "I ought to shove this ball down your throat."

End of story for that match.
Here are links to the ending if you haven't seen it.

Some people are saying the call was racist, a claim they didn't make when John McEnroe was defaulted a few years back for verbally abusing an umpire.
Every tennis fan and player likes a good, tough match.
I don't care for the distraction resulting from the screaming that some of the female players, particularly Sharapova and the Williams sisters engage in.

But bottom line is, you threaten a lines person or an umpire, you are history.
BTW, Serena was losing the match before she was defaulted.
